Snow at Giverny, 1892 by Claude Monet
It has certainly been a cold and snowy winter, no? Sometimes this season can be a real downer for those who love painting nature and landscapes. Thick blankets of snow can seem a little one-dimensional… grab a white sheet of paper and you’re pretty much done, right? Actually, there’s a lot more to discover in snowy landscapes!

What’s your favorite song? If you could draw it in a picture, what would it look like?

It’s fun to explore a certain theme or subject through one particular medium. One pairing that may seem a bit unexpected is autumn and watercolor. See what beautiful partners in art they can make!

Glow-in-the-dark paint, Glow-in-the-dark mason jars
Did you ever catch fireflies in a jar during warm summer nights? The beautiful glowing dots in the dark are a childhood staple of summertime. Here's a project that's very simple and a bit more humane than actually capturing lightning bugs!

I’m about to say something somewhat taboo amongst crafters and artists. I love paint-by-numbers. There, I said it!

paint can, pouring paint
This fun video showcases how wonderful paint is… just on its own! No need to compose a picture or mix colors or use fancy brushes. These guys just pour it out and see what happens! And if you ask me, it’s beautiful.

Pablo Picasso, cubism, portrait, artist style, seated woman
Flowers. Bowls of fruit. Women in fancy dresses. While the number of painting subjects is endless, the same themes seem to pop up over and over again. But no matter how many times a vase or a house gets painted, it will always be unique because of that artist’s style and vision. It’s not so much always what you paint, but how you paint it. A really fun thing to do is play with artistic style and explore the many ways you can interpret the same subject.
