Dressed in Art

Have you started planning your Halloween costume yet? With exactly two weeks until the big day, now’s a great time to put those thinking caps on. As creative scribblers who enjoy art and DIYs, why not try making costumes inspired by famous paintings and works of art?

Dress up as iconic painters like Vincent van Gogh (don’t forget the ear bandage) or Andy Warhol (black turtleneck and white wig). Or create a costume inspired by a famous painting, such as Edvard Munch’s The Scream, one of Jackson Pollack’s abstract works, or Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa (La Joconde).

All homemade and inexpensive, these unique costumes are perfect for the artist and art enthusiast alike. They each show foresight and planning, but don’t require too much of either. A few key clothing pieces and makeup tools—many of which you’ll already have at home—will create a clever and polished look.

But don’t just stop here! Use this inspiration to keep thinking of your own paintings and artists to recreate.

What are you going to dress up as this year?
