Music Looks Like...

What’s your favorite song? If you could draw it in a picture, what would it look like? Different art forms can often inspire each other, and music and visual art are two great examples. There are songs that have inspired paintings and vice versa. Letting music influence your art can be a very freeing experience. Give it a try!

Pick your favorite song, or maybe just a song that’s been on your mind lately. Listen to it closely and paint or draw whatever it leaves you feeling. You can create something completely abstract—a visual interpretation of the music—or something a bit more literal, such as an illustration of a particular lyric. Either way is correct! You can listen to it first, keep playing it while you work, or listen and then begin.

To switch things up, try listening to a song you never heard and see what you create. Or pick a whole genre, like jazz or classical or hip-hop! This is a fun experiment in keeping your mind open and letting your senses do the work.
