The Power of the Hat

Striped summer hat, What I Wore, Jessica Quirk, DIY fashion, hat craft

One distinct memory I have of my grandmother is that she had a hat to match every outfit. Impeccably styled, her elegant ensembles were always topped with matching chapeaux. And you can bet that whenever she bought tiny little outfits for me, there were always coordinating bonnets and sunhats.

Now grown up, I think it’s safe to say my style’s not nearly as ladylike or put together as my lovely grandma’s. I have, however, definitely carried with me the power of a good hat. Whether keeping you warm or shading you from the sun, a stylish hat can really complete an outfit while being functional at the same time.

Someone else who understands the power of a good hat is the talented Jessica of What I Wore. Summer may be coming to a close, but the days are still long and hot—and it’s the perfect time to send summer off in style with a little fashion project! Embrace the heat while staying safe with Jessica’s super stylish DIY project. Breathe new life into an old floppy hat with some painter’s tape, acrylic craft paint, and a small paintbrush.

With your original striped creation, you’ll be shielding your face from sunburn while upping the style factor of any outfit, whether it’s a bathing suit or a sundress. Now get outside and enjoy the last of those long, sunny days!
